Little update!
I ordered five Channas Andrao, i should receive theme next Friday!

The aquarium is almost ready, i started to add différents leafs, Oak, cattapa, banana or palm. And i also added few pistia stratotes as flotting plants.

There is already several hidding spot and i will add two corck tubes at the surface.
My led light has now a rising and sunset dimmer. I thought it could be nice for the fishs.


Ho i forgot, the Channas should make 8-10cm, so still juvénile i suppose and they are wild caught.

Hi Guys!

Channas arrived this morning and look very nice! Size is around 8-9cm, very colorfull for a fresh arriving.

After 1 hour of  acclimatisation they were released in the aquarium with low lighting.
From the start they started to explorate the whole place, they looked very curious and visited all the hiding spots!

They are very curious to each other and sometimes when they cross eachother, they stop moving and ofter one of them start to flare (is it a kind of intimidation?)

I have also noticed few scratched fins and body scales. I don't know if it occured before the travelling, or in acclimatation bucket or in the aquarium. I am keeping on eye on them to watch their behaviour.

I am super excited, they look so nice and very interesting... Be kind they are my first Channas

Here's a little update of my Andrao tank.

Since the winter season is over i started to slowy increase the temperature of the water, it is at 20°c now. I also increase the feeding, now they have food every second day. (Hikary pellets, Gammarus, Brine Shrimps, blood worms.)
I have also started an isopods farming and i am thinking about an mealworms farming (Aphitobius diaperinus),  smaller species should be good for andrao size and more digestible than Tenebrio molitor.

I noticed that they are a lot more active, i see more skirmish, some seem to have their territory and other are more dominante. Some pursuits but no serious injuries until now.

Three weeks ago i had algea problem, i tested my water paramters and noticed Po4 were very high. I think one of my branch was in cause because it reacted very strange since it was in the tank. So i removed it  and i think it disturbed the fishs with less visual barrier.
I am currently slowly fixing the Po4 issue witch also perturb the plant growth.

The Channa are doing great. I followed your advice ans took wild fishes.

I probable have a pair, they are very often together and they chase the others when they came in their area.
The third one is the Big "boy", first on good, eat everything... He is like a vaccum cleaner. He is the bigger one.
Number four makes his life, no trouble.
Number five is the smallest, chased by the others. I think he eats a lot less than the others so i decided to put him in an other tank for a moment in ordre to let him grow.
I will put him back with the others when he will bé bigger.

I have some issues with the tank... I have cyanobacteria at some spot.
I slowed the progress during several weeks and vaccumed it,  but this last days it seems to spread on the plants now....

Other wise i am very happy with them, i Can touch them when i feed them, they are very funny and interesting.

I have a spare tank 120x50x50 and i may build a 160x60x70 (Riparium style). Both for Channas.

You need to be careful because when you put this fish back other fish can attack it.
They can treat it as an enemy.
