Outside pond for Channa

Hi Guys,

I am thinking about to make an outside pond for a channa species. I live in the north west of France near the sea and the winters are quite soft.

As i want it during the whole year i need a species who can survive under 10°C in winter. I don't know exactly what is the temperature of the water in a pond at around 50 60 cm depth when it's 0°C outside. I need to investigate more about it.
From what i read here and there Channa Asiatica may be a candidate.

I know the winter are a lot colder in Poland but does anybody has ever tried in a non heated pond in a exterior garage ? Maybe in another european country?

Channa Argus. It will survive Ice Age

channa argus – gatunek słodkowodnej, drapieżnej ryby okoniokształtnej z rodziny żmijogłowowatych (Channidae).  W 2018 został uznany jednym z ośmiu gatunków inwazyjnych stanowiących największe zagrożenie dla bioróżnorodności i ekosystemów w Europie.

Yeah indeed i know about Argus. We can t find them anymore for sell as they are prohibited now here in France and i think it's a good thing. There are already so many invasive species in our rivers.... I am looking for a smaller species.

I didn't know about ban in France. There is ban in UK but in Germany and Poland there is no ban for channa argus for now. One year ago I  saw them in german ebay. In Platinum version.

Lanner nie przesadzajmy z tą inwazyjnością jak czterech akwarystów w Polsce będzie je miało. Dopóki to nie ryba konsumpcyjna ani popularna w hobby. Takie moje zdanie. Poza tym legalna bo UE jeszcze nie zabanowała. I Polska też nie wg mojej wiedzy

Nie zgadzam się z Tobą. Jeden hodowca argusa, któremu znudzi się ta ryba i wypuści ją do np. Wisły może dużo narozrabiać. Nie musi wypuszczać, wystarczy, że jego staw będzie w strefie powodzi. Wiele jest przykładów skutków bezmyślności ludzi , często tzw. hobbystów. Chociażby amerykański żółw czerwonolicy, którego możesz spotkać w naszych stawach. Pirania, w Europie papugi .....

Przykład może nie do końca w temacie, ale w kontekście  cyt" jak czterech akwarystów w Polsce będzie je miało". Tu wystarczył jeden kot latarnika

One guy in Germany kept Channa asiatica in pond in his garden but it was in spring at 6-8c.
I dont think so they can survive winter period.
Another cold water species to garden is Channa maculata.
Similar to argus but smaller.
And maybe they can survive winter in pond.

Ok ok guys! Thanks for the help. I m gonna give up on this project, i will keep my channa inside

Native range is subtropical to warm temperate.
Native range - southern China and northern Vietnam.
Introduced range - Taiwan,Japan,Madagascar,Hawaii and Philippines.

How cold is winter in France?

Where i live, in winter, the colder temperature are around 0°c
I suppose the water at 60cm deep in a pound is few degrees higher?

Channa asiatica would not survive in that temperature then.
Too cold.
Only argus will.
And maybe maculata.
